Erie Insurance sells auto, home, life and business insurance through our network of independent agents in 12 states and the District of Columbia. Masters Insurance Services was established in 1992 in Forest Hills, Pennsylvania, by mother-son duo Bob and Janet Masters -- a rarity in the industry. Today, the agency continues to serve its 6,000 clients with the same core principle in mind: when you become a customer with Masters, you become part of the family.

A Legacy of Trust

Benjamin Johnston – Principal Agent and Operations Manager

Ben is a licensed agent with 19 years of experience in the industry, 17 of those as an Erie Agent. Ben received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and has expertise in personal lines, commercial lines, & life insurance.

“We are very conscious of the history, trust, and sense of community created by Bob and his mother in the Masters agency,” Ben explains. “We know that our clients rely on us to help protect what is most important to them, and we are proud to be continuing that legacy.”

Ben is a western Pennsylvania native and enjoys spending time with his wife and children biking, skiing, and spending time on and around the Allegheny River.

Bob Masters – Agency Founder

Agency founder Bob Masters has been in the insurance industry for 26 years. He received a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Bob holds the Life Underwriting Training Council Fellow (LUTCF) designation and is an active member of the Insurance Club of Pittsburgh. He and his late mother, Janet Masters, started the agency together, and had the distinction of being one of the few mother-son operated agencies with ERIE. Over the years, they molded a successful, well-respected business within their community. They were co-owners until Janet’s untimely passing in March 2015. She is fondly remembered by many clients, friends, and family members.

A Focus on Customer Service

Masters Insurance Services has a dedicated staff who make customers the priority! Jennifer is a licensed CSR who, although relatively new to the industry and the area, has a strong background in customer service. Von is an agent with nearly 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, in addition to 30 years in the military. She is a Lieutenant Colonel with the U.S. Army Reserve.
